Snowflake Christening
the new day beckons
with snow capped branches
and a bright, sunlit sky
nowhere to be
nothing to do
but give thanks
when everything is so beautiful
you literally must close your eyes
close them to the outside world
and gaze inward, praising
filling, emptying
snowflakes fall afresh
kissing my face
in a christening
of sorts
immersed and washed clean
the smile emerging as natural
and miraculous
as baby’s arrival
